On Thursday March 20, 2007 The Michael Taylor’s Showroom, located in the heart of the San Francisco Design District hosted a fundraising event for Friends of the Children Charity. (FOTC SF)

Founded twelve years ago, and based in San Francisco, Friends of the Children is a revolutionary mentoring program committed to helping our nation's highest-risk children develop the relationships, goals, and skills they need to break the cycles of poverty, abuse, and violence and become contributing members of society.

Friends are full-time employees of Friends of the Children who work as mentors in the program for an average of four hours a day.

FOTC is different because Friends of the Children intervenes early and provides consistent support to each child for 12 years through a consistent relationship with an adult –– their Friend.

Established in 1985, Michael Taylor Designs Inc. is a high-end residential furniture company. Michael Taylor’ is very famous for his beautiful interiors which have been featured in many major Design magazines and publications and is recognized worldwide.

He based his style on a very simply fact: “when you take something out in your home, you must increase the size of what is left”. This concept is seen in most of his furniture which tends to be oversized and extremely comfortable.

The event was hosted by showroom manager, Kelly Mc Grath. Most attendees were supporters of the Friends of the Children Charity comprised of Design Professionals, Realtors and VIP clients.

Soon after the event begun, guests were excited to be exposed to the beautiful furniture and were eager to familiarize themselves with Michael Taylor’s furniture designs collection.

Cocktails and exquisite appetizers were served, guests were able to mingle.
All proceeds went to FOTC.

In the new 6,00 square-foot Michael Taylor’s showroom, attendees toured the showroom and viewed the Company’s signature collection.

  • Elegant oversized linen sofas with rich combinations of texture
  • Stately Wicker armchairs, coffee tables and end tables
  • Eclectic Teak over scaled outdoor furniture
  • Cast Aluminum Mediterranean style indoor and outdoor sofas
  • Massive “ Faux Stone” dining room tables
  • Imposing planters, urns and columns
  • Large sculptural plants
  • Beautiful antique Italian and French reproductions
  • Stunning canvases and fine antique carpets

To sum it all:
Simplicity and elegance play an important role in the collection. It is sophisticated yet contemporary with a traditional twist.“The California Look”- for which Taylor is famous for- bold, if pale, aesthetic that uses natural materials and large furniture is a major component of this collection.

More than a decade after his death, Michael’s reputation remains undiminished and he symbolizes the West Coast Style.

Michael Taylor is one of the most respected and revered designers of our Century.
A philanthropist himself, he would have been proud to see such an event take place in one of his showrooms. Manager Kelly Mc Grath shared her enthusiasm in helping FOTC and was excited about the exposure and future potentials.
